This June is Pride Month and there are lots of ways you can celebrate in Salford and Manchester.

This year is an important year for the LGBTQIA+ community – marking 50 years since the first ever Pride took place in the UK. Pride month is a month dedicated to celebrating LGBTQIA+ communities all around the world. There are plenty of ways for the LGBTQIA+ community and their allies to celebrate and access support during this time. Here’s my round up of how you can get involved this month.

To celebrate Pride month, The University of Salford will be talking to our own LGBTQIA+ students about their experiences. Keep an eye out for future content in this series!

The Pink Picnic is Salford’s annual pride celebration. It takes place at Peel Park on Saturday 25 June 2022. It is organised and delivered by Salford Pride and their mission is to “work to build a stronger, diverse community that celebrates inclusion and equality; where LGBT+ people are represented, thrive and live authentically, in our city and beyond”. Expect live music from iconics like the Cheeky Girls and proud vibes. Get your tickets here.

Although it doesn’t happen during the month of June, Manchester Pride is one of the biggest LGBTQ+ events in the UK and one not to be missed. Taking place on the August bank holiday weekend, thousands of people will be on the streets of Manchester celebrating. If you want to get involved in the parade, the deadline to apply is 28 June 2022. You can apply here. There’s a lot on offer from the rainbow spectacular parade to candlelit vigils and youth pride and family pride events – Manchester is the city to be proud in. Get your tickets now.

Take a tour and discover the LGBT History of Manchester. As Canal Street is one of the oldest and most-established gay communities, there’s a lot to discover. Choose between ‘Gay Village’s Secrets’ or ‘Manchester by Night’ and meet your LGBT tour guide. Get your tickets here.
