Places on campus that shaped my uni experience

Across my three years at Salford, I have enjoyed spending time on all three campuses. I’ve made so many memories here, from trying new foods in Allerton Restaurant, to spending late nights with friends in the library, and even doing my first loads of washing in first year accommodation. Each and every spot has been special in some way, but here are the top three places that shaped my uni experience:

Peel Park Quarter Accomodation

Moving away from home at eighteen was a nerve-wracking experience to say the least, but moving into Peel Park Quarter Accommodation was the best decision for me. The campus-based accommodation allowed me to make a lot of new friends, many of which I am still close with in my third year. Figuring out the process of living alone for the first time was another pivotal moment for me and getting to do that in such a safe and exciting environment made everything much smoother and more enjoyable.

MediaCity

One of the big selling points of the Broadcast Journalism course at Salford for me was the MediaCity campus. Being located amongst big broadcaster buildings like the BBC and ITV Studios really makes you feel immersed in the industry, and the facilities available to students at MediaCity campus have given me hands-on experience and valuable skills. Even outside of university contact hours MediaCity has remained an important place for me. I often go on runs and walks round the Quays, allowing me to to clear my head and take in the lovely views.

Although all my lectures and seminars are on the MediaCity campus, I have probably spent an equal number of hours a week in the New Adelphi building. The reason for this is that in my first week at university I joined the Salford University Dance Squad. Being part of a sports society was another crucial part of creating my community here in Salford. Hours of dance classes and rehearsals in the studio spaces, as well as performances in the New Adelphi Theatre, played a big part in my happiness at university and gave me an escape from the stresses we all face as students.

There really is so many more amazing spots on campus, some of which I never even found till I was in third year!
