BSc (Hons) Architecture
Programme Introduction
Our Architecture programme combines theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and hands-on design experience. Rooted in a rich architectural heritage, the course places creativity and critical thinking at its core. Students develop the skills to become inquisitive problem solvers, ready to respond to the demands of professional architectural practice.
Design Studio and Core Modules
Design studio projects help students explore aesthetic, spatial, and compositional principles. These projects are supported by knowledge gained through three key areas:
- Design Technology
- Practice
- History and Theory
Together, these modules encourage students to engage critically with cultural, theoretical, ethical, and socio-environmental issues in architecture.
Interdisciplinary Learning
Interdisciplinary collaboration is a central part of the programme. In second year, Level 5 students take part in the Multidisciplinary Project, working alongside students from other built environment and construction disciplines at Salford.
This experience helps prepare graduates to understand and respond to complex challenges in diverse professional settings.
Industry Links and Professional Practice
The programme maintains strong links with industry. We are grateful to the wide range of regional architecture practices that supported our third-year students through practice insight days.
These opportunities give students valuable first-hand experience of professional architectural practice.
Real-World Architecture Projects
Students engage with real-world architecture throughout the course. They contribute design ideas to local agendas, including the adaptive reuse of listed buildings such as the Working Class Movement Library.
Learning is also supported through site visits, guest lectures, and live community projects. Recent examples include the Hemingway Design Streets of Play project for the We Invented the Weekend Festival.
Research-Engaged Teaching
We continue to develop research-engaged teaching and industry-focused learning. The programme supports experimentation, live projects, and collaboration with world-leading research groups.
Our BSc Architecture programme is committed to equity, diversity, and inclusion. It reflects a cosmopolitan society and embraces flexible, transnational, and multidisciplinary approaches to studio learning.
