Recently, the University of Salford’s Lecturer in Supply Chain, Procurement and Project Management, Dr Igho Ekiugbo, presented his latest research at the prestigious Production and Operations Management Society (POMS) 2026 International Conference, held at Stockholm School of Economics in Sweden.
About Igho’s research
Igho’s research centres on ‘the role of technological innovations in mitigating geopolitical disruptions,’ which he co-authored with colleagues from the Supply Chain, Procurement and Project Management subject group here at the University,
The research was triggered by the increasing tensions caused by geopolitics and the recent USA-Iran war. It addresses topical issues in the case of geopolitical disruptions affecting global supply chains with a particular focus on UK supply chains. As these rely heavily on global networks operating across complex triadic supply chains, they are especially exposed to significant levels of external shocks.
The research seeks new insights on the technologies implemented to mitigate geopolitical disruptions, whilst identifying barriers impeding the implementation of such technologies and exploring the interrelatedness between these barriers. It also exposes complex socio-economic related factors obstructing the implementation of innovative technologies to mitigate geopolitical disruptions.
