Salford Central Mosque Garden

Salford Central Mosque Garden is a community-centred development designed to support worship, education, social interaction, and community events. Located in Salford, east of the river and surrounded by residential neighbourhoods, the project transforms a previously dilapidated parking site into a modern, sustainable mosque complex with gardens and open green space.

The building provides a large place of worship for the Muslim community while also supporting wider educational and social activities. Facilities include flexible multi-purpose rooms for classrooms and meetings, a library for study and learning, event halls for community gatherings, and a café that serves visitors while generating additional income for the mosque.

The main prayer hall is the largest space in the building and can accommodate around 1,000 people. It includes underfloor heating, effective ventilation through a hybrid VRF system, large windows for natural light, and a daylight harvesting system to regulate lighting efficiently.

A separate upstairs prayer area for women is provided in accordance with Islamic traditions. This space includes the required amenities, with glazed walls and screens that allow visual and audio connection to the main prayer hall.

The design combines traditional Islamic architectural features, such as arches and open courtyards, with modern sustainable systems. Curtain walls increase natural lighting, while solar panels and ventilation strategies improve energy efficiency and air quality. Extensive landscaping and biodiversity across the site further strengthen the project’s environmental focus.

Overall, Salford Central Mosque Garden brings together cultural identity, sustainability, functionality, and community value within a contemporary urban setting.
