Uncovering The Past
This project explores heritage as a living continuum to be understood, rather than a fixed style to be imitated. By bringing together local communities and wider visitors, the proposal uses the idea of the vernacular as a framework for design.
Rather than focusing on public or monumental architecture, the project is rooted in the domestic, functional, and everyday spaces that support community life. It proposes a new extension to the Working Class Movement Library (WCML) that creates welcoming spaces for local people while respecting the presence and cultural value of the existing building.
The extension acts as a statement of intent: a contemporary addition that supports the community, responds to local identity, and continues the evolving story of the WCML.
