The new academic year is here! Read a letter from a member of staff who has written a letter especially for you with their advice on how you can make the most of your time as a Salford student.
This letter was written anonymously by a Biology graduate. They identified themselves as an international postgraduate research student.
Dear student,
Congratulations on becoming a part of our Salford community! As you embark on this exciting journey, I wanted to share some advice to help you adapt to the transition to higher education, embrace adult life, and discover the joys of Manchester and Salford.
First and foremost, embrace the opportunities for growth. Higher education is not just about studying; it’s also about personal development. Engage in extracurricular activities, join clubs or societies that align with your interests, and step out of your comfort zone. This is a time for you to discover new passions and talents.
As you transition to adult life, take charge of your responsibilities. Time management is key. Create a schedule that balances your academic commitments, social life, and self-care. Setting goals and staying organized will help you navigate the demands of university life effectively.
Manchester and Salford have so much to offer. Explore the local culture, try new foods, and attend events and concerts. Take advantage of the vibrant arts scene, historical sites, and green spaces. The more you immerse yourself in the city’s offerings, the more you’ll feel connected to your new home.
Remember, you are not alone and it’s okay to ask for help when you need it. University life can be both exhilarating and challenging, but there’s a network of support available to you. Whether it’s academic challenges, homesickness, or personal concerns, don’t hesitate to connect with your fellow students, professors, and academic advisors, as well as the University’s counselling services. They’re all there to help you succeed.
Lastly, cherish the journey. University is a unique time in your life where you’ll make lasting memories, lifelong friendships, and gain valuable knowledge. Embrace every moment, both the highs and the lows, as they contribute to your growth and transformation.
Welcome to the University of Salford! I wish you an incredible adventure filled with learning, growth, and unforgettable experiences.
Kind Regards,
