Nim Tennakoon, MSc Digital Marketing student
Before I started my Search and Social Media Marketing module (SSMM), I did not consider optimising my digital profiles or worry about the ranking of my name in Search Engine Results Page (SERPs). Knowing what I know now this is one reason as to why I study Digital Marketing at Salford.
Most of us have social media profiles such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. I actually have more than 5000 friends on Facebook! Even my Facebook page has more than 2000 likes. On Instagram I have nearly 3500 followers. For a long time I was active online posting around twice a day. But only recently I have started to understand the theoretical and financial values behind it.
Once I began to appreciate the theory of social media marketing I became fascinated. Did you know I am what you might call in digital marketing a micro-influencer?
It’s true! I have now even read some studies that suggest users like myself with smaller follower numbers actually have higher engagement rates on social media compared to some Megastars. Therefore, people like me with similar followings can be of huge benefit to online brands.

Almost a full year ago I wrote about why I chose to study MSc Marketing at Salford Business School. And now, almost twelve months later, I wanted to write an update on why this is one of the best decisions I have ever made.
When I last wrote about my attendance of the business school, I was two and a half days into my first module… Fast forward a year and I have now finished all four of my Masters modules and have moved on to the Business Innovation Project in order to turn my Postgraduate Diploma into a full MSc in Marketing.
After working extremely hard and overcoming various obstacles and challenges, I have so far been thrilled with my grades, and have most definitely exceeded any initial expectations of myself and hope to continue to do so throughout the somewhat lengthy process of researching, presenting and writing up my final project.

MediaCityUK – tram station
University of Salford Business School has been in the eye-catching spot since its campus expansion into MediaCityUK. It is the first academic establishment that opened a campus at MediaCityUK, which grants it the Cutting Edge position in Digital Marketing related teaching and research.
I for one, had always a passion for a digital marketing career, and I find it a blessing to have the opportunity to study at Salford Business School and being able to benefit from the physical presence at MediaCityUK during my course.
Here are my greatest experiences so far which help me to boost my digital marketing career prospects and why I think if you are interested in this area you should choose MediaCityUK to be your destination:

I have been privileged to be a part of MSc Marketing at the University of Salford Business School and I am passionate about social media. Being an international student from Nigeria I feel that it is the right place to develop my passion into a career.
Social media is gradually emerging in Nigeria, although the adoption rate is not yet at the same level as it is in the UK.
Social media marketing is bringing about a drastic change in the way that organisations engage with their stakeholders. Salford Business School introduced me to the latest thinking in the use of social media.
Why do I think it was the right move?

Media City UK Campus
I’ve been studying MSc Marketing at Salford Business School for seven months now and thought it was about time to do a bit of cheerleading.
Not with pom poms or anything, but don’t they say the pen is mightier? Here are five points to prove it:
1. SOCIAL MEDIA STUDY
When I decided to leave my decent and not badly paid job in London to get onto a Masters marketing programme and into a load of debt, it was essential from the off that the course covered social media marketing.
Amazingly, the University of Salford was one of very few universities whose masters marketing course included a module in Search and Social Media Marketing, and this was the first thing that turned my head.
Now I’m here and studying the Search and Social Media Marketing module (#SSMMUoS), I know I made the right move. I’m even beginning to get to grips with Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)!

My greatest experience at University of Salford was my time spent within the Salford Business School.
An MSc – or Masters – is something I was considering doing for some time. I completed my BSc in Professional Broadcast Techniques and afterwards, in all honesty, felt somewhat lost. Something I feel many graduates may be able to relate to.
However, during my BSc I undertook a module in IPR (Intellectual Property Rights), which was taught within Salford Business School. It became clear to me on reflection of my time spent as a University of Salford undergraduate, where my strengths and weaknesses lie.
For example, I was far more interested in my research for IPR than I was in producing my honours video project. This honesty and clarification was a milestone for myself. Working in a call centre for a soul destroying three months after graduating, I definitely knew that a big change of direction was needed!

Fianna Hornby, KTP Digital Marketing Executive
I have now been lucky enough to spend a year at Salford Business School, working as a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) Digital Marketing Executive. This is a position which revolves around a project between the university and their partner Pennine Telecom. In this role so far, I have researched multi-channel digital marketing strategies and I am now well on the way to implementing marketing automation within Pennine Telecom, which will give the Bury based SME a competitive advantage in the 21st Century market place.
Due to my involvement in the Knowledge Transfer Partnership, I was lucky enough to be offered a place on the university’s MSc in Marketing. As I’ve worked so closely with the business school as both a professional and a student, when I was asked to write a blog post on my ‘greatest experience’ I found the idea of choosing one quite difficult because I’ve managed to accomplish so many things.
During my time here I’ve made great friendships with both classmates and colleagues, I’ve been given incredible guidance in academia and offered invaluable opportunities which will stay with me for the rest of my life.
On reflection, one day stands out, the day I delivered my first guest lecture…
